American rapper, songwriter and actress Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, known professionally as Cardi B, has dropped a new single called ‘Up’.

First announced on Monday, the track arrives with an accompanying visual directed by Tanu Muino at midnight on Friday, February 5.

‘Up’ marks Cardi’s first new music since her hit collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, ‘WAP’.

In a new interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Cardi discussed moving away from the sexual nature of that single to make a song that, like her debut mix-tape, is influenced by Chicago drill. “I was young, and I liked that and everything, so my mix-tape was very all about gangster violence,” she said. “If it’s up, then it’s stuck, and that’s where I wanted to take it with this record.”

She also said she has plans to release her second album this year and already has “like 50 songs” recorded for it.

“I’m just still not satisfied,” she said. “If I’m not satisfied, I’m just not satisfied, but I really want to put out an album this year. I feel like I have no choice now. Now, I feel like I exceeded my limit of holding. I just need to stop with the fear.”
