THE Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly bashing his one-month-old daughter to death and setting the dead infant and his wife ablaze.

According to reports, the suspect, identified as Mr Benedict Anieze, allegedly smashed the baby in a show of anger at their residence at 5, Pipeline Road, Idimu, following a misunderstanding with his wife, Mrs Promise Okon.

He was alleged to have also set their house ablaze with the dead baby and his wife inside. The woman was, however, saved by neighbours who rushed to rescue her.

The woman was subsequently taken to the police station where she narrated what transpired between them and how her husband suddenly smashed their baby down before setting their home ablaze.

Police sources said the suspect who confessed to the crime, claimed he was under a spell to do it.

The Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said the Lagos Command was treating the matter as a case of murder and arson.
