Sanwo-Olu inaugurates 10th Lagos State House of Assembly

Mudashiru Obasa, the incumbent Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Agege Constituency 1, was returned as Speaker of the House for the third term, having been unanimously elected by the 40 lawmakers, including 19 returning members and 21 new ones that constitute the Assembly.

THE Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, proclaimed and inaugurated the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly at the Assembly Complex, Alausa, Ikeja, marking the commencement of the 10th Assembly’s legislative duties in the State.

Sanwo-Olu, who was accompanied by his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and other top government officials, while congratulating the Legislators, said: “The proclamation of the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly symbolises the continuity of a democratic journey, but also the vital role of legislative power in our system of governance. 

The Governor, thereafter, assured them he would work with the Assembly to drive impactful policies and foster an environment where the hopes and dreams of citizens of the state could be realised.

Meanwhile, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the incumbent Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Agege Constituency 1, was returned as Speaker of the House for the third term, having been unanimously elected by the 40 lawmakers, including 19 returning members and 21 new ones that constitute the Assembly.

Obasa pledged his commitment to serving the House with humility, honesty, and dedication.

“I urge my colleagues to join me in this commitment, and together we shall leave a legacy of excellence that generations yet unborn will be proud of,” he said.

Mojisola Lasbat Meranda was also elected by the lawmakers as Deputy Speaker, Noheem Adams as the new Majority Leader, Adedamola Kasunmu as Deputy Majority Leader, Mojeed Fatai of Ibeju Lekki 1 as Chief Whip, and David Setonji as Deputy Chief Whip.
