A 25-year-old man dressed as a female has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command while allegedly trying to steal from a female hostel at the Adamawa State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Yola
Reports state that the suspect, Jika John, who is from the Michika Local Government Area but resides at Sabon Pegi in Wuro Chekke, Yola South LGA, in Adamawa State, was arrested on Monday, June 6, 2022, while dressed as a woman and gaining entrance into the institution to steal gas cylinders from the female hostel.
The Adamawa State Police Command on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, paraded him among 14 other people charged with various other offences.
While speaking to members of the press at the headquarters of the Police Command, Jika claimed that he made an arrangement with a girl on Sunday, June 5, 2022, to meet on Monday, June 6, 2022, when all her roommates will be out of the hostel, which prompted him to wear female clothes so as to have easy access to the hostel that Monday.
Jika said that he was apprehended by security while on his way to the hostel between 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm. He insisted that his plan was to go and have sex and not to steal.
The police, however, insisted that he entered the female hostel with the intention to steal.
The Officer in Charge (OC) of the state police Crack Squad, CSP Ahmed Gombi, who addressed newsmen while parading the suspect, said Jika John perpetuated criminal trespass by dressing as a female and entering the compound of the school of nursing.
“We have established that he used to steal cooking cylinders of students. We received a distress call that he was about to be lynched, so my men went there, rescued and brought him to the police headquarters.
“He has confessed that he is not alone. So we are looking at the possibility of a syndicate. We will go after them one by one.
“The boy has no girlfriend in the institution. We have done our background check. He normally goes there to steal gas cylinders of female students. These cylinders are portable,” CSP Ahmed said.
