Four die, five rescued, others trapped as building collapses in Lagos.

The developer of the building may likely face persecution.

A three-storey building located at 4, Alayaki Lane, Lagos Island, collapsed during the heavy rainfall of Saturday, May 21, 2022, killing at least four persons, while leaving five injured and others trapped in its rubbles..

The incident was cofirmed in a statement by the Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

The statement revealed that an unconfirmed number of people were still trapped under the rubble.

“The Agency responded to the above incident which was already in violation of building safety protocols.

“It was discovered that the building had been captured by the LASBCA District Office and served with all Statutory Notices, Sealed at District and Central Enforcement Level.

“Further investigation determined that the developer had continued clandestine operations mostly at night and at the weekends.

“An unconfirmed number of people are still trapped inside the building. Search and Rescue operations are ongoing. Further updates to follow," the statement reads.
