Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa graces Lagos SUBEB sports competition

THE first black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal, Chioma Ajunwa was a special guest of honour at the final lap of a sports competition organised by the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board at the Agege Stadium on Thursday, April 1, 2021.

Chioma Ajunwa is also an officer with the Nigerian Police Force. She is the first and only woman to compete in the FIFA Women’s World Cup as a footballer as well as the Olympic games doing track and field.

Also in attendance at the event were pupils from various Local Government Education Authorities in Lagos, Lagos SUBEB officials led by its Chairman, Hon. Alawiye-King, Abiodun Olanrewaju Adedoyin, other Permanent Board Members and spectators.

While speaking with the media, the Chairman of Lagos SUBEB, Hon. Alawiye-King said that the purpose of the competition is to show that Education is holistic and that the Lagos state government is not focusing on only the cognitive and affective, but also the psychomotor aspects as well.

The football game finalists were Alimosho LGEA, Agege LGEA, Ibeju-Lekki LGEA and Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGEA. 

Mushin LGEA and others were rewarded in other competitions. The event put smiles on the pupils’ faces as they lifted the trophies.
