SALEEM Olamilekan Banire, Founder of Daily Achievements of the Youth Foundation (DAY Foundation) has said that molestation as a child spurred him into establishing his own foundation.

Banire said this during an exclusive interview with AlimoshoToday.

According to Banire: "I was motivated and inspired to start up a charity foundation when I was in secondary school because I was personally molested and shut down among my colleagues to some extent.

"Although my parents are really trying and up-doing to make us meet up to standard, but then we all understand how people react to the underprivileged most times.

"That never got to me, because we've always been very contented with whatever little we had, but then I felt so bad whenever these things happen to every other student or the underprivileged."

The NGO, which started in 2010 while the founder was still a student, according to him, "is a non-profit NGO working in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 & 17.

"We're pivotal in reaching out to the underprivileged, and also raising the girl child (as well as instilling the 21st-century transferable skills into the youths)."

Recalling how the Foundation reached out to people during the pandemic, Banire said: "During this pandemic, we've been executing different projects to make sure everyone gets the best care and love they are entitled to.

"We never stopped reaching out to people in local communities, the underprivileged and the vulnerable children.

"Also, we've been to different locations with slums, and we can't stand but do the little we can.

"We have been carrying out different CSR Projects alone, and in partnership with some other organizations too; and this was mostly was about 'Covid-19 Relief Packages'.

"During the Ramadan period, we reached out to people with relief packages, the people of Akinola Community, Aboru Town, Igando Axis, Pipeline among others.

"We also take up responsibilities, as we partner with some organizations to disribute palliatives across Lagos.

"After Ramadan, we never stopped being our usual humanitarian self; so we continue with the distribution of palliatives and even started a new project tagged the 'Covid-19 Relief Funds'."
