THE Executive Chairman Igando Ikotun LCDA, Comrade Akinsanya Lasisi Ayinde, has reassured Lagosian that all marriages conducted and registered in Igando Ikotun LCDA remain valid and in accordance with the Marriage Act.
The council boss made the statement at the Igando-Ikotun Marriage Registry which now wears a new look, courtesy of the council mayor.
Akinsanya also said that since the local councils are the closest to the grassroots, they should be the first port of call for contracting and verification of marriages.
He then urged members of the public to keep patronising the legal and approved Marriage Registries for marriages, as it is within the exclusive authority of the Registrar within the Marriage District (Local Government) in accordance with the provisions of Section 30 (1) of the Marriage Act and Section 7 (5) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
