Four men alleged to have committed a criminal offence of N5,000 have been remanded in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri over their inability to raise the same amount to perfect their bail condition in court.

The defendants identified as Yusuf Mohammad, 21, When Bello, 23, Alas Ibrahim, 25 and Abdullahi Hassan, 22, were arrested at the Katangowa market area of Abule-Egba for stealing an Itel mobile phone worth N5,000 belonging to Sanusi Mohammad.

It was gathered that the phone got missing and the owner of the phone, Mohammed, went to the Oke-Odo Police Division and reported the missing phone while mentioning the defendants as his prime suspects.

The police arrested them and ordered them to provide the alleged missing phone and the suspects denied stealing the phone.

After interrogation, the Police found them culpable and subsequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrates' Court for conspiracy and stealing of the phone.

The suspects denied and pleaded not guilty before the court.

The prosecutor, Supol Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that he had no objection to their bail but the court should give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A. O. Ajibade, granted them bail in the sum of N5,000 with one surety in like sum.

However, the defendants were remanded in the Correctional Centre over their inability to perfect their bail conditions.

The matter was adjourned till March 15, 2021, for mention.
