THE Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has embarked on clearing major drainage channels in the Igando-Ikotun LCDA, which were clogged with refuse in the Potoku Canal, which is the longest in Lagos State, spanning about 30 CDAs.
During the drainage clearing on Friday, April 19, 2024, the Executive Chairman of the LCDA, Comr. Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya said, “The present administration is determined to make the community flood-free by ensuring that the major waterways that belong to the State Government are kept clean.”
The council Boss added that the ongoing clearing and dredging of all drainage channels across the communities will continue to prepare for the rainy season.
Meanwhile, on her part, Hon. Mojisola Badmus, the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Igando-Ikotun LCDA, reiterated that the present administration is committed to an enduring solution to the issue of flooding across communities.
She appealed to residents to desist from improper disposal of waste, which blocks river channels in the community to pave the way for the free flow of water.
“I would like to appeal to all residents to take good care of these canals and drains as the Government is cleaning them. Kindly take ownership and desist from encroaching on canals and drains right of way,” Badmus said.
